Printers typically don’t pay a great deal of attention to their suppliers’ corporate affairs, but for North American customers of Heidelberg and The Gallus Group, the full integration of the two companies’ sales and service organizations is good news indeed.

The 400 sites in the U.S. and Canada where Gallus equipment is installed now have access to Heidelberg’s industry-leading tech support, service, and parts operations. This means that they can expect to receive the same kind of care as Heidelberg customers, who will become better acquainted with what the Gallus portfolio can do to help them grow their businesses in labels and packaging.

Based in St. Gallen, Switzerland, Gallus makes some of the world’s most sophisticated label and screen printing systems. The processes that these platforms use include flexography, offset, digital inkjet, and rotary screen printing. Heidelberg acquired 100% ownership of Gallus four years ago, following decades of selling its products into print shops around the world.

The integration of sales and service in the North American market was complete as of April 1 of this year. Products will continue to carry the Gallus brand, and Gallus employees are now employees of Heidelberg.

The result is “a unique opportunity to be stronger in the U.S. and Canada by combining the best of two organizations,” says Felix Müller, President of Heidelberg Americas.

  Thanks to Heidelberg’s very strong service and parts logistics organizations, customers with Gallus equipment will now get the same level of support as customers with Heidelberg equipment.  

Christof Naier, Head of Business Unit Label, adds that with Gallus technical experts remaining on board, there will be no loss of “the Gallus touch” that current owners are used to.

There also will be opportunities to cross-train Heidelberg technicians on Gallus products and to synergize the two sales teams. Naier is confident that a coordinated sales effort will give Gallus technology the profile it deserves among U.S. customers.

“Gallus is the leader in specialized machinery for label and screen printing applications,” he says. “We are not yet a supplier to every U.S. print shop, but through the Heidelberg sales force, we will be able to cover the entire U.S. market.” The joint effort will familiarize the market with innovative solutions such as:

  • Gallus ECS 340, the best-selling system in its class for cost-effective label production with flexo, screen printing, cold foil, and rotary diecutting.
  • Gallus Labelmaster, a flexible and expandable label printing system for everything from commodity labels to specialty products with high-end finishing.
  • Jointly developed with Heidelberg and Fujifilm, Gallus Labelfire, an advanced digital inkjet system that prints labels with up to seven colors plus digital white at 1,200 x 1,200 dpi with UV curing and inline finishing.
  • Gallus RCS 340, an extensively automated system for high-output label production with UV offset, UV flexo, rotary screen printing, solvent rotogravure, hot and cold foiling, coating, varnishing, and lamination.
