Help PRINT trend the planet using #IPD16 and social media on October 19, 2016
Greetings Citizens of The Printerverse, and a big thank you to Heidelberg for inviting me to share some information about the best holiday ever – International Print Day!
International Print Day (IPD) launched two years ago after a discussion in my weekly Twitter #PrintChat as an open forum to share print knowledge, cool print projects, and information about the tools, products and services that help push the industry forward. In 2015, participants generated almost 8,000 tweets delivered to more than 27 million timelines. This year, we are expecting to reach even more people, and this is why we want you to get involved.
How To Participate in #IPD16
Step One: Follow @IntPrintDay on Twitter , and “like” International Print Day on Facebook.
Step Two: Gather up your information, pictures and videos, and head to the social streams on October 19, 2016. Don’t forget to include the hashtag #IPD16 with everything you share. This is the best way to have your information seen exponentially around the planet. IPD is also a fantastic opportunity to open your doors to the community and local schools. You can even host an event to celebrate print as well as educate customers and prospects on what’s new in the industry, and promote your business!
We have a theme for IPD each year. This year, #PrintSmart was chosen by the #PrintChat-ters. #PrintSmart has a dual meaning:
smart as in sharing information about the tools, products and services available to help us all print smarter
smart as in helping customers (and consumers) learn more about cool print applications and new print technology they can have access to
When relevant and possible, we encourage participants to include #PrintSmart along with #IPD16. You can download the #PrintSmart logo to share and use as you wish here.
Glocal is the New Local
Social media has no borders, and IPD proves every year that whether you are in New York City or Malta, there is a seat for you at our international print-loving table. We are always looking for people to represent their countries and manage Twitter accounts, so if you see an opening where you are, please get in touch!
Need a Little Help?
Don’t be scared, it’s ok. Everyone, including me, had no idea what to do in the beginning. My advice is simple – find a teenager or college student, and get a crash course for simple sharing on Twitter and Facebook. I have posted a few videos about social media, and there are PLENTY out there to help you get started. If you are in the industry, there is no better day to jump in and reap the benefits of this global event.
Can You Hear Me Now?
The perception that print is yesterday’s news is slowly changing, and initiatives like International Print Day help to push the positive message much further than any one individual or company can do alone. The one thing we all have in common is our love for this industry, and for the greatest communication device ever known – PRINT! See you in the social streams on October 19th!
